Garden Expo, Budapest Aréna, 22 – 24 March
Whether it is a garden, a terrace, or just a balcony, the garden lifestyle exhibition, called GardenExpo taking place annually in Papp László Budapest Sport Arena, held this year on March 22-24 gives the perfect and hottest answer of the given year to everything.

Be it about which pergola or outdoor seating set is the most stylish, which lawnmower is the most practical, or what the latest trends in plants and flowers are. Hungary's largest and most well-known outdoor lifestyle exhibition is again waiting for those interested to answer many questions and show eye-catching, yet practical solutions.

The garden is considered one of the most weightless, although in fact a very divisive area of a home design. Generally, a bathroom, bedroom or children's room or even a kitchen must meet the same expectations, possibly in a different style. But the function of the garden is much more complex than these!

It can be a place of rest even if one hardly spends on it. You can create an idyllic atmosphere on a hot summer day with a sun lounger, parasol and inflatable pool, but the property can even grow by a new room with the most stylish pergola underneath richly furnished in an interior style area.

The garden can be a space for children, but might have an important role in providing food for the family. Thanks to the garden parties it can be a social space, even the scene of the representation.

You can also choose a simple, short-cut green lawn, or you can add a characterful style through the rampant vegetation, which takes us on a journey to distant landscapes. But you can also give a hybrid purpose to it, so the garden is thus perhaps the most customizable part of our home, which can be shaped to our own image and personality.

The garden was also considered a projection of the soul centuries ago, and our predecessors were indeed right that its appearance reflects our personality and individual life situation for sure.

Do we have children or dogs? Do we live in a family or alone? Are we introverted or extroverted? Do we work at home or go to the workplace?

Perhaps only the living room can compete with the exterior in this regard, but it also has to meet much more limited, general functions, nothing can match the degree of garden design’s freedom. We have collected the trendiest options this year, with which we can shape our mini oasis to our own image and according to our needs.

Inside or outside?

There are many solutions for extending the living space including the terrace. The simplest is a pergola that can be closed on all sides or a winter garden, or even a partially closed and covered porch.

Indoor furniture can be placed in these, but if the fabric can be exposed to direct sunlight or rain, it is definitely worth voting for outdoor furniture very similar to indoor ones but more resistant to temperature fluctuations and to any extreme weather conditions. It is worth choosing modular pieces, so it is easy to rearrange the space for a gathering, or you can easily vary it if it has become too familiar.

Nowadays the role of the old summer kitchens has been taken over by the outdoor kitchen, it is advisable to install them under a pergola, but not in a closed room, so the most cozy thing is to grill in the summer and then have a snack at a sculptural round dining table.

Natural materials are in vogue

A few years ago it was impossible to imagine the garden without particularly cheerful and colorful plastic furniture, but nowadays natural materials are clearly in fashion, which can also be well associated with the modern Mediterranean style.

Such is the terracotta, which serves great as a floor and wall cover, but also as a space separator and matches perfectly to whitewashed walls, as well as striped, neutral or bright colored linen parasols and textiles. You can't go wrong with wood neither, more rustic the effect, the better is! And the same is valid for corroded metal surfaces.

Covering elements with an industrial effect create an interesting contrast with flowers and fresh plants, but if we avoid them, they can even appear here and there in the form of accessories or as garden art pieces, less prominently.

The accessories’ trend is still dominated by ceramic objects with random shapes and almost naive patterns, which smuggle luxury and sophistication into the garden with their unusualness. But we shouldn't forget about rattan, jute and various rocks neither!

The plant is good when it grows vividly

Not only biologists regard a beautiful lawn not very beneficial, biodiversity is also preferred by landscape architects. Various potting solutions, raised beds and container gardening are all tools for creating an urban jungle.

Runners and creepers, pollinator gardens and terraced planting solutions are popular.

Today wildness, drama and vibration are more of a virtue, while engineering precision, minimalism and monoculture should be avoided when creating the flora around the house. The so-called natural lawn also fits into this direction, an alternative to mowed lawn, when we create the undergrowth with a combination of many different species for paths.

In addition to the spots of the exhibiting manufacturers and distributors, the organizers are also preparing prize draws and a number of programs including professional presentations on the main stage at the GardenExpo taking place in the Budapest Arena on March 22-23-24.

Visitors will also have the opportunity to ask on spot the professionals about the perfect pool or jacuzzi, garden machines and tools, barbecue, irrigation technology or outdoor lighting solutions. Consider to purchase your ticket in advance at a discount.
