Crackdown on Fare Dodgers by Hungarian Railways - Incredible Individual Fine
Fare dodgers paid fines in excess of Ft 15 million in total to the account of MÁV-Start in July, the highest-ever monthly total, the state-owned passenger railway operator MÁV-Start said.

In the first half, revenue from fines amounted to Ft 80 million, up by 40% from a year earlier.

The earlier monthly record of Ft 13.3 million was recorded in March, 2020.

The highest individual fine paid last month was Ft 148,000.

MÁV said its team responsible for collecting fines had stepped up its performance and the efficiency of collecting fines to a considerable extent.

As compared to the former Ft 8,000 fine, those who do not settle the debt on the train must pay Ft 25,000. This sum increases to Ft 50,000 if somebody fails to pay up within 30 days.
