New State Secretary for SMEs Appointed in Hungary
The National Economy Ministry announced the appointment of a new state secretary for SMEs.

Richard Szabados, who last headed the Hungarian Economic Development Agency, was appointed to the post by President Tamas Sulyok on the recommendation of Prime Minister Viktor Orban.

National Economy Minister Marton Nagy expects the new state secretary to maintain close and active ties with Hungarian SMEs as well as professional organisations and business chambers that represent them.

The state secretary should involve them in hammering out the details of an SME action plan that includes favourable changes to the Szechenyi Card Programme, a targeted scheme for SME investments and support for the digital development of the sector.

The new state secretary will also be tasked with mapping SMEs' challenges and opportunities, collecting proposals and jointly deciding on possible focus areas.

The ministry said that SMEs were the "backbone of the Hungarian economy", accounting for two-thirds of employment.
