Perceived Snub: EU Aid for Flood Costs Could Flow to Hungary After All
Hungary can bid for funds from the €10 billion made available by the European Commission for repairing damage caused by recent flooding, spokesman Stefan de Keersmaecker confirmed on Monday.

A misunderstanding arose a few days ago when Commission President Ursula von der Leyen failed to include Hungary in a list of five countries eligible for aid in connection with the flood damage.

In response to the perceived snub, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said on Saturday “I do not recommend that we collect funds by posing as some miserable beggar, we are a serious country, we have done the work”.

HVG writes that it is not necessary to strike poses to obtain money from the EU, but the damage being paid for must be verified.
