Hungary Offers Help to Flood-Hit Countries

The Hungarian Ecumenical Charity has provided a 5 million forint (EUR 13,000) in emergency assistance to communities hit by devastating floods in Slovenia, the organisation said.
In the worst-ever natural disaster in Slovenia’s history, flash floods and mudslides have hit the country’s north-eastern and central regions, claiming human lives and forcing the evacuation of several thousands of people, it said in a statement. It cited the local weather service as saying that a month’s worth of rain had fallen in less than a day.
The country’s prime minister anticipated unprecedented levels of damage, it added.
Defmin: Hungarian Army's Helicopters Helping In Slovenia
Defence Minister Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky said on Sunday that following cooperation talks with Marjan Šarec, his Slovenian counterpart, the Hungarian army would send helicopters to Slovenia to help rescue operations in the neighbouring country.
He said a detailed military planning had already started.
Neighbouring countries can always rely on Hungary’s help, the minister said.
Storms and heavy rains in recent days have caused massive floods and significant damage in Slovenia, he said.
Szijjártó: Hungary Offers Disaster Relief Assistance To Georgia
Hungary has offered disaster relief assistance to Georgia, the foreign minister said on Saturday.
In the past few days, “we have been faced with extreme weather conditions”, Péter Szijjártó said, adding that the “storms, heavy rains and flash floods have serious consequences in more distant parts of Europe as well”.
In Georgia, unusually heavy rains have led to a landslide in the northern part of the country, many people have died or gone missing, and the storm left behind huge damage, he said on Facebook.
“I expressed my sympathy over the phone to my Georgian colleague and offered Hungarian disaster relief assistance, if need be. Ilia Darchiashvili appreciated the offer and said they would contact us if their own resources are exhausted,” Szijjártó said.
