Jewish Community Developments to Get Billions of Forints In Support from Hungarian Gov't
The government supports developments to the Hungarian Jewish community's religious, charitable and cultural facilities, the construction ministry said on Tuesday after talks between Janos Lazar, the construction minister, and Jewish federation MAZSIHISZ leader Andor Grosz.

The two sides reviewed partially state financed ongoing projects of Jewish organisations, with an agreement was concluded under which the government will channel 2.8 billion forints (EUR 69m) into the refurbishment of MAZSIHISZ's hospital in Budapest, the ministry said in a statement.

Also, the government will contribute 635 million forints to financing plans for the renewal of rabbinical seminar and Jewish university OR-ZSE, the statement said, adding that government has also indicated its readiness to provide funding for renovating the Jewish community's headquarters in Budapest's Sip Street.

About the hospital

The hospital has 240 beds, it’s a national institute, taking care of all people with a priority to our community members. A special priority is given to holocaust survivors and second generation of survivors. We are spreading our activities for younger generation doing society health and prevention activities.

The Jewish Charity Hospital is the only hospital in Europe that is Jewish. The food is kosher with a kosher supervisor. There is an active synagogue with worshipers- most of whom are hospitalized in the various wards. The rabbi not only runs the synagogue but gives holistic-mental support to the sick. The hospital keeps the Shabbat and holidays as much as possible in an active hospital.
