Over 400 Euro: Forint Slips Further
The forint weakened further on Thursday, after slipping past 400 to the euro on Wednesday.

The forint traded at 401.47 to the euro around 5:30 in the evening, weakening from 400.48 late Wednesday.

The forint softened to 364.52 from 362.70 against the dollar. It eased to 427.00 from 426.67 to the Swiss franc.

Meanwhile, BUX hangs in red after morning slide

The Budapest Stock Exchange's main BUX index finished Thursday down 0.56pc at 72,649.80, hanging in the red after slipping past the break-even mark in early trade.

OTP Bank lost 0.62pc to HUF 18,350. Turnover of the share reached HUF 4.0bn from a HUF 7.2bn session total.

Oil and gas company MOL fell 0.83pc to HUF 2,616 on turnover of HUF 1.5bn.

Pharma share Richter slipped 0.46pc to HUF 10,770 on turnover of HUF 1.0bn.

Magyar Telekom edged down 0.19pc to HUF 1,036 on turnover of HUF 0.3bn.

The bourse's mid-cap BUMIX index rose 0.41pc to 6,637.87.

Elsewhere in the region, Warsaw's WIG 20 fell 1.60pc and the Prague PX was 0.40pc lower.

In Western Europe, London's FTSE 100 was down 0.19pc ahead of the end of trade, Frankfurt's DAX fell 0.80pc and the CAC 40 in Paris dropped 1.44pc.

Forint Hits Weakest Level in Over a Year 

Geopolitical tensions in the Middle East have pushed Central European currencies lower, but the forint was the hardest hit on Wednesday 2 October, Portfolio writes.

On Wednesday evening, the forint was trading at 400.7 against the euro, a 0.8% decline during the day, and the currency’s weakest level since March 2023.

The dollar-forint rate moved up from 359.2 to over 363.

On the stock market, the benchmark BUX index fell by 1.5%, led by a sell-off in Richter shares.

Shares of the pharmaceutical group fell by 3.6% to Ft 10,820 after an extended rally in recent weeks.

The other three blue-chips also finished the day lower. MOL was down 1.6%, Magyar Telekom slipped by 1% and OTP was 0.4% lower.

Forint weakens on interbank forex market

The forint traded at 398.08 to the euro around 5:30 in the evening on Tuesday, easing from 397.14 late Monday.

The forint weakened to 359.73 from 356.22 against the dollar. It fell to 425.31 from 421.66 to the Swiss franc.
