Enjoy a Vibrant Autumn in Budapest: Art, History & Unique Experiences Await
In the autumn, you can visit multiple exciting exhibitions at the Ludwig Museum. The permanent exhibition titled Time Machine explores the connection between time and art with almost 800 art pieces on display.

These pieces can be seen as time machines that offer us a glimpse into various parts of the past. At the exhibition Women’s Quota 01, all the artwork is by female artists, and they explore female roles and topics, and the representation, performance and achievements of women in art.

1. Look under the surface of reality in the Light Art Museum

At the Phantom Vision light exhibition of the Light Art Museum, you will find amazing artwork by more than 35 Hungarian and international artists, all of which explore the sub-surface layers of perception such as dreams, hallucinations and meditative trance.

The art pieces explore relevant topics, questions and problems, for example internet addiction, climate change and even brain research.

2. Visit the Ludwig Museum!

In the autumn, you can visit multiple exciting exhibitions at the Ludwig Museum.

3. Check out photos from Frida Kahlo in the Mai Manó House

In the Mai Manó House, right next to the Pest Broadway, you can immerse yourself in the art of photography.

At the Frida Kahlo: Her Photos exhibition, you can get a glimpse of the secret life of the renowned artist, and you can look at art pieces which were hidden from the public eye for decades.

The photos cherished by the Mexican artist show the different periods of her life, her family, her friends and there are some portraits of her as well.

4. Explore ancient Mesopotamia at the Museum of Fine Arts of Budapest

If you are interested in the history of ancient times, make sure you visit the latest exhibition at the Museum of Fine Arts of Budapest.

The Kingdom of Gods and Demons exhibition will take you back to the mysterious world of ancient Mesopotamia.

 You will learn about exciting stories and as you explore several-thousand-year-old artworks on display, you will get a glimpse into the origins of European culture and civilisation.

5. Find out all about the authentic Japanese tea ceremony

At the Ferenc Hopp Museum of Asiatic Arts on Andrássy Avenue, you can explore oriental art and culture. 

At The Tea Path exhibition, open until the end of December, you can learn about the ancient tradition and culture of tea drinking.

At the exhibition you can see special accessories and pots used in the tea ceremony, and you can learn about the parts of the tea-making process – through the personal objects of the former directors and employees of the museum. You can also visit other exhibitions at the museum, and make sure you go for a walk in its oriental garden.

6. If you like fine arts, make sure you take part in the Art Weekend Budapest

Between 29 November and 1 December – the first weekend of the Advent period – you can visit several galleries and alternative exhibition spaces in Budapest in a unique contemporary art programme.

The event focuses on movement and change – on the roles, expressivity and power of movements, the creative process, travelling, wandering, and mobility in art.

At this weekend, you can participate in several art walks every day that will take you on a guided tour of 3-4 galleries in the same neighbourhood. In addition to the walks, Art Weekend Budapest also offers panel discussions and educational programmes.
