Regarding the collection titled Biedermeier Everyday Life. Art and Bourgeoisie in 19th-Century Hungary, it was emphasized that the exhibition presents the defining style of the 19th century from a holistic perspective, by displaying Hungarian and Austrian paintings, graphics, furniture, costumes and other everyday objects.
In addition to iconic depictions of Hungarian Biedermeier painting – such as József Borsos's The Emir of Lebanon and His National Guard or Miklós Barabás's painting Galambposta and a portrait of Ferenc Liszt as a youth – the exhibition also presents the works of the greatest masters of Viennese art, Friedrich von Amerling, Ferdinand Georg Waldmüller and Josef Danhauser.
The exhibition, which features more than 300 works of art, includes works from Hungarian and Austrian public collections, including the Belvedere in Vienna and the Wien Museum, the statement said.
In connection with the exhibition of the life's work of Sándor Galimberti and Valéria Dénes, it was recalled that the members of the artist couple were decisive figures in modern Hungarian painting of the 20th century.
In addition to the couple's works, the exhibition also presents the works of the painter's father, Luigi Galimberti, and his first wife, Mária Lanov.
It was highlighted that The remaining works of Luigi Galimberti can now be viewed by the general public for the first time, just as the rich collection of paintings and graphics from her hometown by Czech-born Mária Lanov is being exhibited in Hungary for the first time.
They added that the exhibition also presents the locations of the artist couple's life. They recalled that the Galimbertis studied in Paris with the most modern painters - Dénes Valéria was a student of Henri Matisse - and exhibited at the Paris salons almost every year.
The exhibition – which is the most complete presentation of the Galimberti's work to date – features 85 paintings and graphics and numerous documents, the document states.
Further information about the programs related to the collections – lectures, curatorial and unusual guided tours – can be found on the exhibition venue's website.
