Xploring Hungary: Great Bustard Reserve At Dévaványa
- 24 Apr 2025 12:04 PM
The Dévaványa Landscape Protection Area (Tájvédelmi Körzet) was established in 1975 to safeguard the most significant stocks in Hungary. Built in 1979 in a vernacular style, the bustard rescue station hosts an exhibition on the characteristics of this endangered bird along with its distribution in Europe and in Hungary in particular. In the runs next to the building, 15-16 kilogram males and 4-6 kilogram females can be seen.
An exhibition in the gallery presents the flora and fauna, as well as the folk traditions of the Sárrét and Greater Cumania (Nagykunság).
The protection of free-ranging bustards is complemented by work on the manor, where one of the main tasks is protecting broods that have become endangered by agricultural activity.
How to get there:
By car take Route 4 to Kisújszállás, then the road to Körösladány. By train take the Körösnagyharsány-Vésztő-Gyoma line.
