Csárda & Kéknyelű: Traditional Hungarian Inn & Rare Grape Variety Declared Hungarikums
- 2 Jun 2025 12:39 PM

The csárda, once a vital roadside inn offering food and lodging since the early modern era, remains a living part of Hungarian hospitality culture.
The committee's latest meeting was held at the historic Hortobágy Csárda, which dates back over 300 years. Minister of Agriculture István Nagy described it as “an integral part of Hungarian culture” and a source of national pride.
The kéknyelű grape, cultivated on just 45 hectares in the volcanic soils of Badacsony, is another rare gem. Experts consider it an ancient, indigenous variety – and in some vintages, wines made from it have won global acclaim.
Also added to the Hungarian Heritage Collection were:
-
The Conductive Education System, based on the internationally recognised Pető method, which supports the development of people with physical disabilities.
-
The Békés County furriers’ embroidery, a centuries-old craft tradition still practiced by local artisans today.
-
The Hungarian saddle, particularly the Tiszafüred variant, known for its craftsmanship and historical significance in Hungary’s equestrian heritage.
These latest recognitions bring the total number of Hungarikums to 96 and the Hungarian Heritage Collection to 158, according to the Ministry of Agriculture.
