Maigret Season 2 Heads to Budapest for Filming
The second season of Maigret, the period detective drama based on the classic novels by Georges Simenon, is officially in active development, with Budapest named as the filming location. The show is produced for PBS Masterpiece by Playground Entertainment and Paprika Studios, the latter based in the Hungarian capital.

Season 1 introduced viewers to a younger version of Chief Inspector Jules Maigret, a rising star in the Police Judiciaire, whose investigative style relies less on force and more on empathy and intuition. Set in 20th-century Paris, the series captures the contrast between glittering high society and the city’s criminal underworld.

The Budapest shoot will once again see the city serve as a convincing stand-in for historic Paris — a role it has successfully played in numerous productions thanks to its versatile architecture and strong local industry support.

Patrick Harbinson returns as writer and director, joined by Faye Gilbert and David Evans on directing duties. Producers include Colin Callender, David Stern, Susanne Simpson, John Simenon, and Hilary Strong, with Victor Jenkins leading casting.

While production dates have not yet been announced, Season 2 reaffirms Budapest’s appeal for British and international productions looking to combine period authenticity with a cost-effective and professional filming environment.
