Celebrate Harvest Festival in Tokaj on First Weekend of October
Open cellars, vineyard tours and cultural events await visitors between October 3 and 5 at the Tokaj-Hegyalja Harvest Days, one of Hungary's oldest harvest festivals, the organisers informed MTI.

They wrote that the venue for the event, which has been held since 1932, is the Tokaj Festival Village this year, but programs are also being prepared at many points in the town over the weekend.

Among others, the Tokaj-Hegyalja University Agricultural Technical School will host a full-day harvest parade on Saturday, and the Tokaj Winemakers' Association will also organize vineyard tours on that day.

In addition, cellars and cultural events will be open throughout the weekend, and a sightseeing train and electric minibus will also run between the festival venues.

The festival aims to present the traditions, values and cultural diversity of the Tokaj wine region to the general public.

The main venue of the event will feature a wine courtyard and a gastronomic promenade, complemented by a craft fair, a craft street and family programs.

One of the most spectacular events of the festival is the harvest parade on Saturday afternoon, a colorful procession of cheerleaders, wine knights, traditionalists, horsemen and decorated vehicles march through the streets of the city.

This is followed by the grape-raising ceremony, during which the mayors of the World Heritage wine region symbolically unite the harvest of their settlements.

The Mayors' Wine, which is made from this, symbolizes tradition and togetherness; the wine is not sold commercially, but serves only for representational purposes.

The festival atmosphere will be provided by Dzsúdló on Friday, and ByeAlex and Slepp on Saturday, along with DJs and other performers. Sunday is a family-friendly day, with Alma Együttes and Brandnyúl performing.
