Cinemira International Children’s Film Festival in Budapest this October
The Cinemira International Children’s Film Festival is Hungary’s only event dedicated to films for children and teenagers. This year, the festival expands to two weekends to reach a wider young audience. Cinemira TEEN takes place from October 8-10 at Akvárium Club in central Budapest, while Cinemira KIDS, for ages 4 to 12, will be held on October 23-24 at Millennium Park.

The festival showcases dozens of short films and animations from over 80 countries competing for the Golden Squirrel Award for Best Film. The Panorama Program features acclaimed international feature films, offering a broad view of contemporary cinema for young viewers.

Apart from screenings, Cinemira supports the development of children’s and youth films in Hungary by offering professional programs each year.

On October 8 at Akvárium Club, the Cinemira Children and Youth Film Pitch Forum will present new film and series projects aimed at young audiences. For the first time, the Junior Pitch Forum will allow teenagers aged 14-18 to pitch their own projects in front of industry professionals and a jury.

Visitors will have the chance to meet prominent Hungarian filmmakers like Gábor Herendi, Orsi Nagypál, Lili Horvát, and Academy Award winner Kristóf Deák, who will share their experiences in filmmaking. Animation fans can connect with Digic Pictures, a leading studio known for video game cutscene animation. Popular Hungarian TikTok creators will also discuss the secrets behind successful TikTok videos.

Special guests at Cinemira TEEN include Josefine Frida, the star of the internationally renowned series SKAM, alongside its creator Julie Andem, who will join a roundtable discussion with the audience.

The festival is highly interactive, encouraging children and teenagers not only to watch but also to create. Participants can explore aspects of filmmaking through workshops in directing, animation, stunt work, dance choreography, and comic book creation.

Hosted as part of the Müpa and Human Rights and Cultural Foundation’s Liszt Festival, Cinemira is supported by the Hungarian National Film Fund.

Please note that event details are subject to change; check the official site for current information.
