Most Popular Autumn Travel Destinations & Attractions in Hungary Revealed
Budapest, Eger and Pécs are the most popular destinations for domestic travellers this autumn, an analysis by bookings site Szallas.hu shows.

In a comparison of regions, Northern Hungary is the most popular among travellers, accounting for one-fifth of bookings. Lake Balaton is runner-up, with 15pc of bookings, followed by Budapest and Western Hungary.

Around one-third of guests plan to stay at hotels for their autumn trips. Most guests plan two-night stays and 90pc of bookings are for less than HUF 170,000.

Szallas.hu data also revealed that about a third of guests also requested board in addition to accommodation, most often breakfast or half board.

Among hotel bookings, the 4- and 3-star categories are the most popular.

While nine out of ten autumn bookings are worth up to 170 thousand forints, bookings worth between 170 thousand and 270 thousand forints account for 7 percent, while those over 270 thousand forints account for approximately 3 percent.

The most popular autumn attractions include the Nyíregyháza Zoo, the Sárvár Thermal and Wellness Bath, the Budapest Zoo and Botanical Garden, the Eger Castle and the Gyula Castle Bath, but many people also visit the Zalakaros Bath, the Hungarospa Hajdúszoboszló, the Visegrád Citadel, the Esztergom Basilica and the Festetics Castle in Keszthely.

Most bookings have been made for September, but interest in October is also growing, mainly due to the long weekend on October 23 and the autumn break. Nearly a third of October's pre-bookings are for the four-day long weekend. Eger, Gyula, Budapest and Hévíz are the most popular destinations during the holiday season.
