'Downtown Wine & Champagne Festival' in Budapest, 4 - 9 June
Picture yourself in the heart of Budapest, glass in hand, surrounded by the charm of Szabadság tér (Liberty Square) as you toast to summer at the IV. Belvárosi Bor & Pezsgő Fesztivál. From June 4 to June 9, 2025, this delightful six-day festival invites you to immerse yourself in Hungary’s vibrant wine culture, savor delectable street food, and sway to live music under the open sky.

Held in the elegant V. District, this event is a warm invitation to connect with locals, fellow expats, and the soul of Budapest’s summer season.

Discover Hungary’s Wine Heritage

Step into the tree-lined oasis of Szabadság tér, where nearly 50 of Hungary’s finest wineries and sparkling wine producers gather to share their craft.

Now in its fourth year, this festival, organized with Junibor—the association of young Hungarian winemakers—offers a chance to taste everything from crisp Furmint and bold Cabernet Franc to effervescent Hungarian pezsgő and familiar prosecco or champagne.

Each sip tells a story of tradition and innovation, with winemakers like Kamocsay Ákos Jr., Laposa Bence, and Szepsy István Jr. pouring their passion into every glass.

Whether you’re a wine connoisseur or simply curious, the festival’s relaxed vibe makes it easy to explore Hungary’s rich vinicultural heritage while chatting with fellow enthusiasts against a backdrop of historic architecture.

A Feast for All Senses

As you wander through the square, let the aromas of Hungarian specialties like szarvaskolbász (venison sausage) or international bites from vendors like Mexikói Büfé and Nemo Fish & Chips tempt your palate.

Craving something sweet? Indulge in treats from Gelateria Pomo D’oro or Raclette by Lili, perfect for pairing with your favorite wine.

Each evening, live music fills the air, creating a joyful atmosphere. While the 2025 lineup is still under wraps, past performances by artists like Dévényi D. and Claudia Bayer promise a mix of lively and soulful tunes to keep the mood bright.

When: June 4–9, 2025, daily from 12:00 PM to midnight.
Where: Szabadság tér, Budapest’s V. District, steps away from the M2 metro (Kossuth Lajos tér stop), tram 2, or bus 9.
Entry: Free to enter, but you’ll need a festival glass (premium or exclusive options available) to sample wines. The event is cashless, accepting only bank cards or HelloPay cards. If you attended in 2022–2024, bring your festival glass—it’s still valid!

Tips for a Great Experience:

Stroll in early to enjoy the stalls at a leisurely pace.
Sip slowly, stay hydrated, and pair your drinks with delicious bites to keep the day going.
Parking is limited; opt for public transport or use the Liberty Square underground garage.
