Students in Hungary Supported to Study at World’s Best Universities Via Stipendium Peregrinum
With the Stipendium Peregrinum Scholarship Programme, the government provides scholarships to study at the world's best universities and covers travel and accommodation costs for young Hungarians, the minister of culture and innovation said.

"We are giving young Hungarians the opportunity to test their knowledge on the international stage and then, strengthened by this, to put it to good use for the benefit of our nation," Hanko told a year-launch event attended by sixty-five young participants in the scholarship programme.

"This is what the Pannonia Scholarship Programme is all about, and its most precious diamond is the Stipendium Peregrinum," the minister added.

He said that 39 of the participants were studying in the United Kingdom, including 13 at the University of Cambridge and 11 at Imperial College London, and there were several others studying at universities in the United States.

"We spend a total of 1.2 billion forints (EUR 3.1m) annually to deepen the knowledge of the sixty-five students. This spring, we will announce the programme again, spending 400 billion forints on scholarships for students who have been accepted to foreign universities. After that, we will continue to support young people who are already participating in some kind of scholarship scheme with 800 million forints," he said.

He added that in 2026, students already studying at universities abroad would also be eligible to apply for scholarships under the programme.

He said that in addition to the Stipendium Peregrinum, the Pannonia family offers another scholarship that takes young people to the world's 200 best universities for six months.

"A total of 11,355 students have participated in the entire Pannonia Scholarship Programme in the past period, spending a total of 1,295 years abroad. We are giving our young people opportunities, as we are ranked tenth in the world in terms of research talent, and this is what our scholarship schemes and the renewal of the entire Hungarian higher education programme are all about," said the minister.
