Another Club Closed in Budapest Under New Illegal Drug Rules
Authorities on Wednesday ordered one-month temporary closure of Turbina, a nightclub in Budapest’s Eighth District, citing alleged drug trafficking.

Turbina told 444 that police had conducted weeks of undercover surveillance at the club in February, during which no violations were identified and no action was taken.

Management said the current measure was based on a confession in a separate procedure, in which an individual claimed to have purchased an illegal substance at the venue.

Police relied on legislation adopted in December and amended in January, which permits the temporary closure of establishments where authorities determine that drug trafficking has occurred.

Turbina is the eighth music venue to be shut under the new rules.

Its management argues that the regulatory framework places disproportionate responsibility on cultural venues for what it describes as a broader social problem.
