Latest Analysis: Tisza Stronger in Cities, Fidesz Still Dominates Smaller Settlements
- 15 Apr 2026 6:21 AM
In settlements with fewer than 500 eligible voters, Fidesz holds a dominant lead, securing 123,935 votes (48.58 percent) compared with the Tisza Party's 103,772 (40.68 percent). The nearly 8-percentage-point gap signals clear political dominance, reflecting the strength of local political networks and institutional presence in rural communities.
In settlements with 500-1,000 voters, the race is far more balanced: Fidesz leads with 45.86 percent, while the Tisza Party trails closely at 44 percent.
Settlements with 1,000-5,000 voters mark the first major turning point. Here, the Tisza Party takes the lead with 46.51 percent, surpassing Fidesz's 43.43 percent. This category is crucial both politically and demographically, as it contains the highest number of voters, making the Tisza Party's advantage particularly significant.
In settlements with 5,000-20,000 voters, the Tisza Party extends its lead, securing 53.87 percent, more than 17 percentage points ahead of Fidesz's 36.74 percent.
The gap widens further in settlements with 20,000-50,000 voters, where the Tisza Party holds 58.28 percent compared with Fidesz's 32.79 percent.
In the largest settlements (over 50,000 voters), this trend strengthens further: the Tisza Party leads with 61.29 percent, while Fidesz trails at 30.24 percent. Even in Debrecen, once considered a Fidesz stronghold, the Tisza Party now enjoys a 1.7-fold vote advantage.
The analysis concludes that a highly segmented political landscape has emerged, where settlement size plays a decisive role in voting behaviour.
