Tisza has won convincingly, with 138 seats in Hungary’s 199-seat parliament, securing a two-thirds supermajority. Fidesz falls to 55 seats, and will serve as the main opposition party. DK failed to win a single seat, and Klára Dobrev resigned as party leader.
Hungary heads to the polls this Sunday, 12 April, in what is widely seen as one of the most consequential elections in the country’s post-communist history.
Magyar is the most visible new face on Hungary’s political stage — a former Fidesz insider who turned into a high-profile opposition leader almost overnight. He now accuses the government of nepotism, misusing EU funds, and using state media for propaganda, advocating for policies to combat corruption and restore democratic institutions.
A dramatic shift in the Hungarian political landscape may be on the horizon this weekend. According to the latest projection from the independent polling agency Medián, the opposition Tisza Party, led by Péter Magyar, is on track to secure a two-thirds "supermajority" in the upcoming parliamentary elections on Sunday.
