Crime Insight: Iraqi Attempted Murder in Hungary Arrested in Vienna
Officers of the state police on Monday arrested a 27-year-old Iraqi national wanted for attempted murder in Hungary, Austrian authorities have confirmed.

The suspect was detained at his workplace in Vienna’s Meidling district by Austria’s specialist police unit WEGA, supported by the State Criminal Office.

The arrest was carried out on the basis of an active European Arrest Warrant issued in connection with a violent incident in which he is suspected of having stabbed his business partner in 2025.

According to Austrian police, the operation was the result of targeted intelligence-led work, allowing officers to locate and apprehend the man while he was at work. He was taken into custody without incident.

The case forms part of ongoing cross-border cooperation within the European law enforcement system, which enables member states to pursue suspects across national borders when serious crimes such as attempted murder are involved.
