Night of Artworks Festival Celebrates 10 Years of Light & Creativity in Budapest
- 15 May 2026 9:31 AM
The Night of Artworks Festival (Műtárgyak Éjszakája Fesztivál) is back from May 14–16, 2026, marking its 10th anniversary with more than 120 programs across 70 venues.
This year’s theme, “The Healing Power of Art,” translates into three evenings of workshops, guided tours, open studios, rooftop sunsets, and light-filled installations that reimagine how Budapest glows after dark.
Art That Comes Alive at Night
Museums, galleries, artist studios, and unconventional venues open their doors well past bedtime, offering behind-the-scenes tours, restoration demos, film screenings, and thematic city walks.
Some of these places — like private studios and workshops — are only open during the festival, making this a rare opportunity for art lovers to explore the capital’s creative undercurrent.
A regular ticket grants access to all standard events on a chosen day, while VIP tickets unlock special experiences.

The Festival of Light — Budapest at Its Most Photogenic
Light plays a starring role this year. Expect installations exploring how illumination transforms art and architecture — from sunset terrace sessions at Pesti Vigadó to torchlight sculpture walks in the HAB Art and Business park on Andrássy Avenue. Few art experiences are as striking as wandering through bronze and stone figures lit only by your flashlight.
Behind the Studio Doors
One of the festival’s biggest draws is access to otherwise hidden creative spaces. The Artus Studio, a 2,000 m² former factory turned art hub, invites guests to meet resident artists, try hands-on clay and plaster work, and witness video installations built around the sounds and textures of Budapest.
Over in Budafok, the 116-year-old Haggenmacher Brewery, now the KULTIKUM art space, showcases mesmerizing kinetic light sculptures created from recycled industrial materials.
A Citywide Gallery of History and Atmosphere
The festival also highlights Budapest’s treasures like the Tomb of Gül Baba on Rose Hill and the Róth Miksa Memorial House, showing how sunlight and stained glass can redefine interior art. Meanwhile, exhibitions such as Zsombor Barakonyi’s “Filtered Light” at Képező focus on the interplay between urban spaces and the human psyche.
Hands-On Healing Through Art
Workshops across the city embody the festival’s “art as therapy” theme. Try art therapy sessions at NEO Contemporary Art Space in City Park, or join Linda Bodolóczki’s collage workshop blending vibrant expressionism with geometric form.
For something unexpectedly sensual, the Ráth György Villa offers “The Scent of a (Former) Woman,” an inclusive program engaging not sight but smell and touch — a beautifully human approach to the art of empathy.
Plan Your Evenings
With events spread across Buda and Pest, planning ahead is wise. Most programs are Hungarian-led, but many workshops, installations, and studio visits transcend language entirely. It’s art you can experience — not just observe.
Whether you’re new to Budapest or a long-time resident, The Night of Artworks Festival offers three nights where the city becomes one big, glowing gallery. Bring comfortable shoes, a sense of curiosity, and maybe a flashlight — you’ll see Budapest in a new light.
