- 25 Jun 2026 9:14 AM
The joint announcement from the National Directorate General for Disaster Management and the National Public Health and Pharmacy Center (NNGYK) warns residents to prepare for sustained, extreme heat conditions over the coming days.
Health & Safety Advice
Authorities emphasise that this level of heat places intense physical and mental strain on the body. Those most at risk include young children, the elderly, pregnant women, and individuals with cardiovascular conditions. Residents are urged to look out for one another and take preventive health measures.
Hydration:
Before feeling thirsty regularly drink fluids. Note that alcohol, caffeine, and highly sugary beverages, as these accelerate dehydration.
Sun Protection:
If attending outdoor events, or heading to the beach, avoid direct sunlight during the hottest hours of the day. Seek shade or air-conditioned spaces when possible. Wear light-colored, breathable clothing, UV-protection sunglasses, and use high-factor sunscreen and lip balm.
Water Safety:
To prevent shock ever jump into open water with a overheated body - cool down gradually.
Storm Indicators & Vehicle Warnings
Due to the extreme heat, localized summer thunderstorms may trigger sudden weather changes. Visitors to Hungary's major lakes should keep a close eye on the regional storm warning light systems:
* Lake Balaton: 54 warning lights line the shore, ensuring at least three are visible from any single point.
* Velence Lake: Equipped with 4 warning lights.
