Heat Records Smashed in Hungary as Temperatures Soar

The 40C reading in Budakalasz shattered the previous record of 37.5C set in Orkeny in 1994. Budapest's Lagymanyos district also saw a new high of 39.8C, surpassing the 36.5C recorded in 1935.
Early on Sunday, Boda registered 26.3C, the highest early-morning temperature for this date, beating the 24.5C recorded in Gyor-Likocs in 2019.
By 9am on Sunday, temperatures had already reached 30C almost nationwide, with forecasts suggesting the 1935 daily record of 39.9C in Szerep would also fall.
