Spectacular Journey Through Ancient Hungary & Central Asia at Circus in Budapest
- 11 Jun 2026 9:50 AM
Entitled Mirázs – Örökség (Mirage – Heritage), the large-scale joint production between the Capital Circus of Budapest and the Kazan State Circus takes audiences on a theatrical journey inspired by ancient Hungarian and Central Asian folklore, creating an immersive fusion of circus arts, fantasy, and regional storytelling.
An Epic Narrative in the Ring
The full-length production marks a departure from traditional variety programming, drawing its creative inspiration from the legendary world of Eurasian prehistory.
The thematic framework brings to life the mythical eras popularized by classic Hungarian literature, specifically echoing the dreamlike imagery found in János Arany’s famous narrative poem, Rege a csodaszarvasról (The Legend of the Wondrous Stag).
Rather than relying on spoken dialogue, the production communicates its core themes — family heritage, shared historical roots, brotherhood, and identity — through a purely visual and physical language.
The performance translates ancient mythology into a live, arena-style spectacle where fairy-tale characters, symbolic tableaus, and figures from Central Asian folklore drive a singular, cohesive storyline.
A Convergence of Global Talent
The international cast assembled for the production features elite circus artists from Hungary, Ukraine, Russia, and Georgia, supported by the Capital Circus ballet company and resident orchestra.
The lineup showcases a diverse range of disciplines, from the balancing precision of Khertek Demir-Ool on the Rolla Bolla to the dynamic bouncing ball juggling of Vladyslav Bilenkyi, István Hanusz, and Roman Romanov.
Aerial and acrobatic segments include strap performances by Ivan Grebenkin and Alina Ivacheva, alongside handstand and aerial hoop routines executed by the Old Circus School Ukraine group under the direction of Svitlana Momot.
Equestrian arts form a major pillar of the show's physical choreography. Audiences can expect freestyle horse-training displays from Salikh Gaiazov, alongside high-speed equestrian stunts performed by Andrei Astafev and his ensemble.
To anchor the show’s theatrical structure, the production introduces specialized narrative characters, with guest dancers from the Kazan State Circus — Shamil Vildanov, Ildar Nasybullin, and Emil Qiyasli — joining Tünde Misurák as the Moon Goddess and Róbert Horváth as the Dream Sailor to guide the audience through the performance's poetic transitions.
Universal Appeal for an International Audience
While the production is deeply rooted in regional folklore, the reliance on music, movement, and dramatic choreography removes any potential language barriers, making it highly accessible to the city's international residents and visitors alike.
The elaborate costume design, synchronized choreography, and staging give the production the scale of a live fantasy film, providing a distinctly localized cultural experience within a familiar entertainment format.
The venue itself remains a cornerstone of the city’s cultural landscape. Situated in the heart of City Park (Városliget), the Capital Circus is positioned within walking distance of other major municipal landmarks, including Heroes’ Square and the Széchenyi Thermal Bath, making it an easy addition to a broader itinerary in the district.
