Terror Threat Level Lowered in Hungary
- 29 Jun 2026 12:24 PM
The deputy director-general of counter-terrorism force TEK convened the Anti-Terrorism Coordination Committee, where experts reviewed the security situation and recommended the change, the ministry said in a statement. Interior Minister Gabor Posfai subsequently approved the reduction of the terrorism threat level from a level 2 (high) to a level 3 (moderate).
The committee's analysis, based on current security risks and international intelligence, concluded that maintaining stricter measures was no longer justified at the present threat level.
Law enforcement and national security agencies will continue monitoring the situation and ensuring the protection of citizens and critical infrastructure in line with legal requirements, the statement said.
Hungary raised its terrorism threat level by one tier on Feb 28, the day the Iran war broke out.
