Top Hotel Suite Spots in Hungary: Ensana Thermal Margaret Island Budapest
- 8 May 2026 6:31 AM
Worth noting up front, whilst this is not a new property, in May 2019 the hotel completed a HUF 3 billion modernisation. Having first visited the hotel over two decades ago, returning always feels like enjoying a serene, somewhat secluded escape from everyday life.
What this hotel does - quietly, and very well - is offer a version of Budapest that many tourists and even some expats don’t really see. One that’s slower, greener, and more restorative. A version of the city that’s less about doing and more about being. And personally, I love being there.

Peaceful tree-lined paths, meandering through parkland alongside the Danube, shape the immediate surroundings. This creates an atmosphere distinctly different from the capital’s busier districts, yet they’re within easy reach from here on ‘Margit Sziget’ as the locals call it.
Within this green setting, the spacious suites at this thermal oasis provide a genuinely unique base - right in the geographical heart of the capital - for contented stays that can combine magic moments of rest, wellness, and exploration.
A key reason this hotel is, and always has been, a winner is because this tranquil island can be explored so comfortably from here. On foot, or these days by e-roller, just for a wander or for instance to visit the nearby Wildlife Park, Musical Fountain, Japanese Garden, and much more.

As you may know, Margaret Island sits between Buda and Pest, connected by two road bridges. Access to the hotel is via Árpád híd, and there's plenty of parking available - note to press the 'Hotel' button if you enter by car via the security gate.
Despite its central location, the island itself is largely car-free and devoted to green space. It features a popular running-track and other recreational areas including an outdoor gym. The hotel has a well-equipped fitness center inside of course – with lovely views, naturally.
Many foreign and local guests choose this relatively recently renovated property as a great base for day-to-day activities in the city - returning to a quieter setting in the evenings, where the surroundings are defined by nature rather than traffic or the often-noisy nightlife of Pest.
For expats, this all makes for an ideal staycation location in the capital.

The Views
Choosing one of the 'modern Scandinavian style' suites here ensures you views that extend across the Danube - in the direction of Buda or Pest, you can choose.
Higher floors and selected room orientations provide excellent river views - it’s worth discussing the view options with the hotel in advance. Top tip: Suite 909 or regular rooms on the seventh floor.

These stunning vistas are well worth mentioning as they contribute to the overall experience in a subtle but noticeable way, literally. Morning light over the water or late-afternoon light filtering through the trees adds a visual rhythm to any stay, reinforcing the sense of being slightly removed from the city’s intensity while still being within easy reach.

The Spa
The hotel’s spa draws on natural thermal springs beneath Margaret Island, giving guests access to a range of facilities without leaving the building. These include several indoor pools, multiple saunas and a steam room, a great variety of wellness options, plus dedicated spaces for relaxation.

The wide choice of massage and wellness treatments range from therapeutic massages to more relaxation-oriented or special health services. Many guests here choose to incorporate spa time into their daily routine rather than treating it as a one-off activity.

The Dolce Vita massage is highly recommended for 50 minutes of bliss, for those with less time the 15 minute Relaxing Head and Face Massage nicely fits in with any schedule. For a slightly unusual yet interesting experience at the spa here a visit to the Salt Cave is a good option.
A single session in the Salt Cave equals a full day at the sea-side. The 'cave' is constructed with rocks of salt from the Dead Sea and is an useful therapy for many medical conditions, for boosting the immune system, and for general relaxation. Available to anyone over 14 years, you just sit back, breath deeply and relax - the per person fee is only HUF 3.000.
The ability to move with ease between your room and the spa is frequently mentioned in reviews as a practical advantage, particularly during colder months. At the same time, peak periods can bring higher occupancy in the spa areas, which is worth keeping in mind when planning visits and booking treatments.
The Food
Dining is handled in a way that suits both shorter stays and longer visits, with an extensive buffet served for breakfast and dinner, more casual bistro favourites for lunch, and the added benefit of nearby venues too.
At the centre of the hotel’s offering is Platán Restaurant, where both breakfast and dinner are served in a spacious, non-smoking setting. The format is buffet-based, but with enough variety to keep it interesting over several days.

There’s a good mix of international dishes alongside Hungarian staples. The selection typically includes lighter, health-conscious options as well as more traditional, hearty choices. Opening hours are 07:00–10:00 and 18:00–22:00 daily.

For something more informal, Boróka Bistro provides a comfortable space throughout the day. Coffee and tea specialities are available alongside wines, spirits, and cocktails, making it as suitable for a mid-morning break as it is for an evening drink.
The bistro menu leans toward lighter fare - fresh sandwiches, salads, plus warm dishes of course including healthy items as well as a selection of tasty cakes. It's a great choice for those who prefer flexibility rather than fixed dining times, as the opening hours are daily 08:00–23:00.
Room service is available from 06:30 to 22:30, offering a practical alternative for guests who prefer to dine in their suite. As is common at hotels in Hungary, prices include an additional 12% service charge.
An added advantage of staying here is access to the neighbouring hotel, Ensana Grand Margaret Island, just a short walk away via a covered corridor. Its Margaret Brasserie (also known as the Margaret Pub) offers a slightly different atmosphere, with a more classic, cosy feel, and its own terrace for warmer days.
This brasserie a good option for a relaxed meal or a drink, with a focus on Hungarian comfort dishes alongside draught beers and simple, satisfying fare. Opening hours are 12:00–22:00 daily.
Taken all together, the available F&B options strike the ideal balance: extensive buffet dining when you want it, casual or health specific choices when you don’t, and enough variety to avoid any repetition. For more on F&B here check out this link.
The Rooms
The spacious suites are arranged with separate living and sleeping areas, allowing different parts of the day to unfold with flexibility as well as total comfort. This layout is particularly useful for guests who prefer not to spend extended periods in a single room, or who are accommodating family members or friends and so appreciate the space.
The living area can serve as a place to gather, read, or work, while the bedroom remains a private space for rest. This separation tends to make longer stays more comfortable and allows for a more natural flow between shared and individual time.

You have suite options here too, as two types are available, Junior Suites and Suites. The Family Rooms and Premium Plus Rooms are decent options too according to needs and budget.
The Location
Margaret Island offers several points of interest within a short distance, from the running track to medieval ruins – for orientation note the famous musical fountain is on the oppose end of the island.

For those looking to stay active, the island’s layout supports walking, jogging, or cycling in a relatively quiet environment. E-scooter rentals are available at the hotel, bikes and more can be rented nearby, and the paths connect different parts of the island in a way that makes casual exploration on foot easy and enjoyable too.
When venturing beyond the island, central Budapest is only a short journey away. The nearby districts of Újlipótváros and Pozsonyi út are known for their cafés, bakeries, and neighbourhood restaurants, offering a more local experience compared to the busier touristic areas like the 5th district.
The Verdict
In sum, it scores highly for 1) its spacious suites overlooking the Danube and outstanding island, 2) the range of thermal pools and excellent spa treatments, 3) the extensive dining choices including local specialties alongside international dishes plus health-conscious options.
All that combines with great access to both the island and the wider city, making this property a great choice for expats arranging stays for visiting friends or family, and also for staycations.
For longer stays, the presence of extensive spa facilities - including an outdoor pool - varied dining options, and super suites supports a settled daily rhythm, with time divided naturally between relaxation on the island and activities in the city.

While located within the city’s core, Margaret Island gives a unique appeal and character to this hotel, defined by greenery, open space, and the presence of the Danube. From the suites, this is reflected in views and surroundings that contrast with the built-up districts of the capital.
Overall, the suites make the most of this location, offering both physical space and visual calm, while the on-site thermal spa adds a layer of daily wellness that goes beyond typical city stays. Together, these elements create a rhythm that naturally balances exploration with relaxation.
The resulting positive experience is shaped by this combination of accessibility and environment, quality facilities and caring service, where the suites at this hotel provide a naturally very comfortable base for exploring central Budapest.
