I met my Hungarian boyfriend 4 years ago and after finally feeling London had given me all I needed we moved to Hungary. I worked in A-Z International Kindergarten to start with which was great! I couldn't loose the feeling though that I should be in a medical setting. I now work in FirstMed Centers in Hattyuhaz as their Health Coordinator. It's a great job and all the staff have been friendly and welcoming.
To keep myself busy I also organise a party called So HOT Right Now. Tamas is a Dj so it's a great chance to work together. The next one is October 11th at Corvinteto. If you have never been there check it out it is a great club situated on top of an old shopping center.
1. When did you arrive in Hungary and what brought you here?
I arrived in Hungary in August last year. My boyfriend Tamas is Hungarian we lived in London before and just got really fed up with life there. I really wanted to try living here and I can honestly say I haven't looked back since. I love it!
2. Have you ever been an expatriate elsewhere?
No
3. What surprised you most about Hungary?
How I much I feel like home here even though I've only been here for a year.
4. Friends are in Budapest for a weekend - what must they absolutely see and do?
So many of my friends have visited now I think I could get a job as a part-time tour guide. We go to all the usual places then finish off with a hot chocolate in Mano café. I also like to do a night tour of all the bars. Budapest really has some excellent places. There is a new bar called Instant which is basically just a whole house turned into a bar. You would never get this in London!
5. What is your favourite Hungarian food?
I have far too many favourites Tamas's mum is an excellent cook so the list just keeps getting bigger. I do love Langos a lot though!
6. What is never missing from your refrigerator?
Milk I am a cereal fiend and could live off the stuff.
7. What is your favourite Hungarian word?
Viszontlatasra I just love the way it sounds.
8. What do you miss most from home?
Family, friends, fish and chips, salt and vinegar crisps, skittles and Sunday roasts. I made a Sunday roast last week I was so excited it looked amazing. I went to the cupboard to get the gravy and I had none. Anyone who knows the beauty of the roast will understand my disappointment.
9. What career other than yours would you love to pursue?
I would love to be a radio presenter. We will shortly be making podcasts for our party So HOT Right Now. So I will finally get the chance to have a go.
10. What's a job you would definitely never want?
Traffic warden. I can only go on experience from London as luckily I've never had a ticket here but those guys are mean and also have to take a lot of grief from angry punters. Where we lived in West London they used to try and give you a ticket if you pulled into the side of the road to let someone out of the car!!!
11. Where did you spend your last vacation?
We spent a lot of time at Balaton this year. I think it?s the first summer of my whole life where it didn't rain everyday.
12. Where do you hope to spend your next holiday?
I would really love to go to Berlin. I have so many friends who live there but I haven't managed to visit yet.
13. What was your favourite band, film, or hobby as a teen?
Film has to be Dirty Dancing I'm sure I know it all off by heart. I also loved Weird Science by John Hughs. If you've never seen it check it out. It rocks!! My favourite band was Take That I would have gone to the end of the earth for those guys. How things change?..
14. What can't you resist?
Tamas's eyes.
15. Red wine or white?
I only drink Rose and luckily the Hungarian Rose's are excellent. My favourite is Villany.
16. Book or movie?
It has to be book I love to read. If the book is good enough I can get lost in there for hours at a time.
17. Morning person or night person?
Definitely a morning person.
18. Dog person or cat person?
I have a beautiful dog called nyunyo and unfortunately I'm allergic to cats.
19. Buda or Pest side?
Both I live in Buda and party in pest
20. What would you say is your personal motto?
