1. When did you arrive in Hungary and what brought you here?
I arrived in Budapest 30th April and started my new assignment 1st May officially.
2. Have you ever been an expatriate elsewhere?
Yes, I have been living in Antwerp, Belgium before. This is indeed a great city and I enjoyed living there very much. There you really learn how to enjoy food and good life unfortunately I have gained quite some weight there as well.
3. What surprised you most about Hungary?
That couples, no matter what age, are holding hands and kissing everywhere. Be it in the metro, tram or just the pedestrian zone, they nearly stick together. And I tell you they love kissing not they I don't .. but every 2 minutes ???? It is somewhat cute though.
4. Friends are in Budapest for a weekend - what must they absolutely see and do?
I would first send them to do a tour with the sightseeing bus. It really gives you a great first impression about the city. Then I would take them to the Basilika, which is just stunning afterwards quick trip with the old metro to the Hero Square and of course to the Citadel to enjoy the fabulous view.
5. What is your favourite Hungarian food?
I do like the traditional Goulash, best when it's a bit spicy. Other than that the Hungarians prepare good and tasteful soups (give you back quite some energy after a night out)
6. What is never missing from your refrigerator?
Many things! I like my fridge being full. You would always find cheese and white wine there but also tomato juice and actimel.
7. What is your favourite Hungarian word?
Puszi is unbeatable, I believe. I need to be very careful when traveling to other countries, that I am not using this word there.
8. What do you miss the most from home?
Of course it is friends you miss when you live abroad. Concerning daily life I miss a huge supermarket where you find everything you need.
9. What career other than yours would you love to pursue?
Difficult to say .. never really thought about an alternative. But actually being a doctor or a teacher was in my mind before I have chosen hospitality.
10. What's a job you would definitely never want?
There might be some, which seem to be rather boring. I could for example not work as security in a supermarket. They just stand there the whole day.
11. Where did you spend your last vacation?
Well, if you consider 4 days as vacation, then it was Barcelona. I love this place.
12. Where do you hope to spend your next one?
Next trip will be to Rome. Planning for a longer vacation I still need to do.
13. What was your favourite band, film, or hobby as a teen?
I used to work in a small restaurant when I was young - that was my big passion. Band - Think I was often listening Roxette .. do they still exist?
14. What can't you resist?
Cheese, good food and wine
15. Red wine or white?
Depending on the time of the year. Summer time white wine, winter season a good strong red wine.
16. Book or movie?
Definitely the movie
17. Morning person or night person?
Absolutely a night person. You would find me rather 10 pm in the office than 7 am.
18. Which social issue do you feel most strongly about?
I believe everything to do with child protection.
19. Buda side or Pest side?
Pest side
20. What would you say is your personal motto?
Who fights can lose, who does not fight has already lost.
