Xpat interview: Silvia Miklosovicova
I am living in Hungary since 2008. I work in international company in the field of IT, but my heart profession is Belly dancer. I have been dancing more than 10 years, improving my classic Egyptian Raqs Sharki skills with internationally recognized dancers all around the Europe.

Dance is my passion, my life. I run belly dance lessons for foreigners in the center of Budapest, lessons are provided in English. I regularly perform with my group called Burning Veils in Hungary and Slovakia.

I have been performing abroad for 5 stars hotels and biggest challenge was performing on Cruise ship Silja Line Serenade, sailing between Helsinki and Stockholm. Our performance group continuously look for new dancers.

1. When did you arrive in Hungary and what brought you here?
I have the most common story for arriving to Budapest – it is love. I met my fiancé, who is Hungarian. I visited Budapest many times and was impressed by its beauty, many art and culture possibilities, pulsing life and – what is very important - Budapest showed me its international heart. So I made the decision and moved here.

2. Have you ever been an expatriate elsewhere?
No. I shortly lived in Crete (Greece) and in Cyprus, but I never became expatriate there.

3. What surprised you most about Hungary?
Nice and welcoming people I met here and also hidden natural beauty, which surrounds Budapest.

4. Friends are in Budapest for a weekend - what must they absolutely see and do?
See the castle district (especially the night view), visit the Labyrinth under the castle. Drink one of the Hungarians famous wines at Ferenc Liszt ter or enjoy calm moments in Chocolate room. I would definitely take them to the Buda Hills for hiking or to trip to Visegrad by boat.

5. What is your favourite Hungarian food?
I love Hungarian sweets, but my favorite is freshly prepared Mákos Guba.

6. What is never missing from your refrigerator?
Tejfol. :) I love it as much as pure Hungarians do – cannot imagine life without it anymore.

7. What is your favourite Hungarian word?
Gyönyörű :). Especially when told with the soft accent and tenderness in the eyes :).

8. What do you miss the most from home?
My friends, my dog and my parents. But fortunately the distance is short, so I can travel home often.

9. What career other than yours would you love to pursue?
I dream to be Belly dance teacher and performer for full-time. :) I lived part of my life so, doing full-time performances abroad, but as I moved to Hungary, I had to find stable job. But I cannot help myself, the dancer inside is dancing out of my physical body :). I decided to teach belly dance as part time job and also – I have small group of performers called Burning Veils. We create choreographies together, perform and have fun.

I prepared belly dance lessons in English for foreigners (beginner’s level). I would like to invite everybody – just bring comfortable training clothes (such as fitness wear), a smile and a good mood. We start from 14.6.2010 (Monday). Summer classes will last 3 months and then continue in September 2010 as regular lessons. The place of lessons is Andreanum, Veres Palne utca 19, Budapest. You can visit my website for details: www.aini.moonfruit.com.

10. What's a job you would definitely never want?
Sitting office job, although I currently have one :).

11. Where did you spend your last vacation?
I visited wonderful Croatia – traveling all along the coastline and arrived to Dubrovnik. We visited also Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro. I will never forget the charming town Mostar with its Old Bridge and gulf of Kotor, with its medieval atmosphere and breath-taking views.

12. Where do you hope to spend your next one?

My next one will be in Slovak High Tatras, hiking, breathing the fresh air and introducing the beautiful Slovak nature to my fiancé.

13. What was your favourite band, film, or hobby as a teen?
This is a funny question and I am not sure I want to answer honestly :). I loved Erasure for a short time, but their posters did not look so pretty on the walls, so I changed to New Kids on the Block. My brother used to listen to hard-metal and could never forgive me those smiley sweet faces, as we shared the same room. :)

14. What can't you resist?

Dance. If I hear music, even the smallest cell of my body wants to dance.

15. Red wine or white?

White and dry.

16. Book or movie?
Book. Especially the ones, which takes me to “the other” world. Have you ever heard of Andrzej Sapkowski? Oh, I definitely love his fantasy books full of Slavic mythology.

17. Morning person or night person?

Night person. Morning is for sleep. :).

18. Which social issue do you feel most strongly about?
Helping people to smile.

19. Buda side or Pest side?
Buda side. The reason is that it is calm, hilly and green.

20. What would you say is your personal motto?
If you want to reach something, do everything, even if you have feeling it is not worth to try.
