1. When did you arrive in Hungary and what brought you here?
August 2008. Almost three years ago
2. Have you ever been an expatriate elsewhere?
Yes. In France and in Spain
3. What surprised you most about Hungary?
I guess two things really. One is the amount of open air events put on in the city for people, especially between March and September. And secondly how child friendly the city appears to be. I have two young children here.
4. Friends are in Budapest for a weekend - what must they absolutely see and do?
Have a drink in the evening along the Danube river bank. Check out the Danube panorama as it has to be one of the most impressive cityscapes in the world. Visit the Szechenyi baths, check out the Labyrinth in the Castle District.
5. What is your favourite Hungarian food?
Fruit soup
6. What is never missing from your refrigerator?
Vanilla yogurt!
7. What is your favourite Hungarian word?
Három. Just feels nice and round. Much better than saying ‘three’.
8. What do you miss most from home?
The supermarket
9. What career other than yours would you love to pursue?
PR position in the United Nations
10. What's a job you would definitely never want?
PR position for Charlie Sheen
11. Where did you spend your last vacation?
Austria, Salzburg area
12. Where do you hope to spend your next holiday?
Southern Spain
13. What was your favourite band, film, or hobby as a teen?
I have eclectic music tastes but if I had to choose a favourite it would be Stevie Wonder. In terms of movies I’ve always liked Star Wars, but also anything by Steven Spielberg. One of my favorites as an adult is Munich, much of which was filmed in Budapest of course.
14. What can't you resist?
Buying books, even though I have a backlog of them to get through
15. Red wine or white?
Red. Preferably a good Rioja
16. Book or movie?
Movie for entertainment. Book for knowledge, education etc. I love history books.
17. Morning person or night person?
Night for sure
18. Which social issue do you feel most strongly about?
Protecting democratic institutions and freedoms. When you look at the unrest in the Middle East and North Africa and you consider democracy’s relatively short history you realize how lucky we are to have those things.
19. Buda or Pest side?
Pest I think. Easier to get around!
20. What would you say is your personal motto?
Life is what you make it.
