Xpat Interview - 20 Quick Questions:

1.When did you arrive in Hungary and what brought you here?

I moved to Budapest in December 2012 from California. I followed my heart…
I hope to make an impact on the green industry here.

2. Have you ever been an expatriate elsewhere?

No. However, I love to travel and have wanted to live abroad for a long time.

3. What surprised you most about Hungary?

There are many things that shock me every day about Hungary, some good - some bad.

4. Friends are in Budapest for a weekend - what must they absolutely see and do?

I am an interior designer by trade, so I would take them on a guided tour of the significant Architectural landmarks here like the castle, the bridges, and the historical hotels. Then I would take them to eat at Rozmaring, it is lovely and overlooks the Danube.

5. What is your favourite Hungarian food?

Well, I am a vegetarian, so it is a bit of an oxymoron to find good Hungarian/Vegetarian food in a country of heavy meat eaters! I do love vegetarian Lecso.

6. What is never missing from your refrigerator?

Almond Milk and good white wine.

7. What is your favourite Hungarian word?

Persze… I love the way Hungarians say the word and it is always used when things are positive and happy, which is sometimes difficult for this country…

8. What do you miss the most from home?

I miss my Dunkin’ Donuts vanilla flavoured coffee. I also miss the American positive outlook on life.

9. What career other than yours would you love to pursue?

I wouldn’t want to be in any other field than the green industry. It is a HUGE challenge to make people understand the real impacts of what we are doing to our environment. There is so much that needs to be improved and so many mind-sets to be changed.

10. What's a job you would definitely never want?

I never want to be bored and uninspired by work.
I never want to be in a field that doesn’t encourage creativity and outside-the-box thinking.

11. Where did you spend your last vacation?

Italy. One of the best things about living in Budapest is the quick and easy access to other amazing European cities.

12. Where do you hope to spend your next one?

I think my next trip is a surprise for my birthday, but I have a hunch that it will be to some beautiful castle hotel in the mountains.

13. What was your favourite band, film, or hobby as a teen?

I love the 80’s! Madonna, Bon Jovi, Sixteen Candles, and rollerblading.

14. Apart of temptation what can't you resist?

I can’t resist watching re-runs of Friends.

15. Red wine or white?

White Wine. However, I am still searching for a crisp light white wine in Hungary. I moved here from San Francisco and spoiled by Napa Valley wine varieties.

16. Book or movie?

Both… However, I have to read the book before I see the movie.

17. Morning person or night person?

Doesn’t matter. I have been told my energy any time of the day is refreshing and always positive.

18. Which social issue do you feel most strongly about?

Sustainability and Environmental Responsibility

19. Buda side or Pest side?

Buda for living, Pest for going out.

20. What would you say is your personal motto?
Life’s a Journey not a Destination…
