Balazs Tapaszto is the CEO of the newly established Hungarian start-up TaxiLike. This new company developed their own taxi application for smart phones and offering this for taxi drivers, taxi companies and passengers. The idea is to create direct connection between taxi passengers and taxi drivers using TaxiLike app when passengers can request taxis and select the taxi as they want depending on their own preference.

Before TaxiLike Mr. Tapaszto was Product and Marketing Manager for HP Investigation (DRAGON) solution working in HP CMS (Communications and Media Solutions) division offering software services for CSPs (Communication Service Providers).

Under his guidance new directions has been defined for this product providing solutions Big Data management and cyber security issues that CSPs recently faced with. He joined to HP in November 2010 coming from British Telecom where he worked between 2008 and 2010. At BT he was Product Manager and being in charge of the development and in-life management of solutions within BT’s Value Added Services portfolio.

Before BT Tapaszto worked for Hungarian Telecommunications Company Magyar Telekom, he joined the company in 2001, where he worked in various positions until 2008 as Product and Project manager. He was leading on the development and market launch of Electronic Authentication and Certification services as Project Manager and also was responsible for the product development of Electronic Bill Presentment and Payment solution (Hungarian name Távszámla).

Tapaszto started his carrier at Inform Media Ltd and developed the online presence of the media company introducing media portals www.haon.hu www.szon.hu and www.boon.hu .

As a response to economic crisis Tapaszto established in 2009 his own business as being IT trainer providing IT lectures in English and Hungarian for schools, old/young people and for multinational companies. For his family enterprise Tapaszto put pressure on development and won EU funds for developing IT infrastructure and other premises and introduced webshops for family business: www.muszker.hu and www.haznet.hu .

Sport is very important in his life as he used to be professional volleyball player and doing regular sport activities also nowadays. With his brother he established a fitness center to offer sport facilities for people in every ages.

Tapaszto has graduated in 2000 as Bachelor in Business Studies in IBS and in 2007 he completed informatics studies and graduated as Master of Informatics Teaching at University of Debrecen, speaking English and German languages.

1. Where did you grow up?
I was born in Nyírbátor (small village in East Hungary) and later I completed my studies in IBS Budapest and in the University of Debrecen.

2. If you could be an expat anywhere in the world, where would you choose?
I would prefer a place where the weather is warm and maybe close to water.

3. What would you miss most if you moved away from Hungary?
Friends I left here.

4. Friends are in Budapest for a weekend - what must they absolutely see and do?
I usually show the city panorama from Gellért mountain it is a fantastic for people seeing first time the city then we can take ship cruise or go to one of the bath. In the evening we would probably visit some good pubs and/or party places.

5. What is your favourite food?
One of the traditional Hungarian food: stuffed cabbage as per Szabolcsi style. However you should care not to eat too much of this as quite heavy food.

6. What is your favourite sport / form of exercise?
Volleyball as I used to be professional volleyball player.

7. What is your favourite place in Hungary?
Hévíz with its lake.

8. What career other than yours would you love to pursue?
Probably teacher.

9. What’s a job you would definitely never want?
Doctor because I get sick when I see blood.

10. Where did you spend your last vacation?
Lido di Jesolo and in Hévíz.

11. Where do you hope to spend your next one?
We plan to visit Hévíz again.

12. What was your favourite band, film, or hobby as a teen?
Chuck Norris movies :-), and my hobby was always sports.

13. What can’t you resist?
Doing sports at least twice a week.

14. Red wine or white?
Depending on the food, but I like both.

15. Book or movie?
Movie with my partner or friends.

16. Morning person or night person?
Morning.

17. Which social issue do you feel most strongly about?
Crime against children.

18. Buda or Pest side?
So far I have studied and worked on Buda side only, but like the atmosphere of the old streets on Pest side.

19. Which achievement in your life are you most pleased about?
In my personal life I am proud of my daughters. As for my professional carrier the most pleased achievement was to proceed applications for EU programs and getting funds for my own business and our family enterprise for developments.

20. What would you say is your personal motto?
I truly believe what Larry Summers former President of Harvard University said „Harvard undergraduates believe that inventing a job is better than finding a job”. So I think people focus should be on creating values like inventing new ideas or establishing new businesses and jobs, and this would be the way forward for Hungary also to overcome current economic crisis.
