György Nagy, Executive VP, Sigma Technology Group
György Nagy (b. 1974) is Executive VP of Sigma Technology Group, a Sweden-based technical consultancy employing about 5,000 engineers worldwide. He is also the Country Manager of Sigma Technology Hungary, a team of 250 technical consultants headquartered in Budapest.

Sigma Technology Group offers cutting-edge expertise in software development, product information, embedded systems design & development, and digital solutions with expert consultants, offshore delivery, and development teams.

György started at Sigma in 2004 and has been managing the Budapest site operations since 2006. Under György’s leadership the Budapest site achieved a 10-fold increase in revenue, and is now among the fastest growing Sigma sites.

Sigma Technology Hungary has been chosen as Mensa HungarIQa’s „Intelligent Company of the Year” 3 times, and was awarded the title of „Coaching-focused Company of the Year” in 2021 by the International Coaching Federation.

György is a VP of the Swedish Chamber of Commerce in Hungary, and an Ambassador of Bridge Budapest’s Conscious Business Culture initiative.
 

1. Where did you grow up?

Gyöngyös, 80km to the north-east from Budapest, and also Sárospatak during my gymnasium years.

2. If you could be an expat anywhere in the world, where would you choose?

Stockholm, Sweden.

3. What would you miss most if you moved away from Hungary?

Sour cream, and fast and reliable mobile data connection.

4. Friends are in Budapest for a weekend - what must they absolutely see and do?

Walking around in the Castle area. I don’t think it gets the credit it deserves.

5. What is your favourite food?

Lecsó.

6. What is your favourite sport / form of exercise?

Chess and indoor rowing.

7. What is your favourite place in Hungary?

There are so many. I was strolling the Danube corso in Vác the other weekend, and it was lovely as always.

8. What career other than yours would you love to pursue?

Copywriter, and watchmaking as a side hustle.

9. What’s a job you would definitely never want?

Politician.

10. Where did you spend your last vacation?

New York.

11. Where do you hope to spend your next one?

London.

12. What was your favourite band, film, or hobby as a teen?

I was very much into British rock bands, from Dire Straits to Pulp and The Cure.

13. Apart of temptation what can't you resist?

Another game of Wordfeud.

14. Red wine or white?

Craft beer.

15. Book or movie?

Movie. I’m rewatching the Bond series now, and look forward to Indy 5.

16. Morning person or night person?

Neither. I have started not to compromise on getting at least 7 hours of sleep.

17. Which social issue do you feel most strongly about?

Discrimination.

18. Buda or Pest side?

Pest. I’d hate having to park my car on those steep roads on a daily basis.

19. Which achievement in your life are you most pleased about?

I am very proud of the work we are doing at my company, Sigma Technology Hungary. We punch well above our weight in many walks of life, not just our core business of R&D services, and my heart bursts with pride every time I think about it.
