Alex Mykhailov, Owner of Multicook Budapest
Alex is an entrepreneur, a founder of start-ups and a project manager here in Budapest. He says, “I'll be delighted to show expats the handmade treats from global brand Multicook”.

1. Where did you grow up?

I was born and raised in Ukraine.

2. Why you decided move Hungary and open business there?

My family and I were on a short holiday to travel around Europe and visit my wife's grandfather. He lives on Balaton. It's a beautiful and very quiet place. We have a large family and spend a lot of time on cooking.

It’s great to have fun while cooking with your family, but sometimes you just don’t have the mood or energy. We were really disappointed with the quality of the semi-finished products in the local supermarkets. They can't help you out when you don't want (or don’t have time) to cook at home.

So we decided to open in Budapest a production-store of incredibly tasty, handmade semi-finished products as we had in our homeland. It's so convenient - frees up your time from cooking to spend time with loved ones. and you can be sure that the products are healthy and of the highest quality.

Finally, almost 2 months ago, we opened our doors in Budapest! This city inspires me to do more and more!

3. What makes your business unique?

There is nothing like it in Hungary. Usually, the quality of semi-finished products is quite low due to mass production and the use of inferior products for preparation. Therefore, people who eat semi-finished products are usually used to seeing only frozen pizzas, nuggets and fries in them.

Our Multicook brand shows the world that frozen food can be very high quality, just like your mother or grandmother used to make for you. And most importantly, you can see the process of making this food with your own eyes, right behind the glass.

4.Can frozen food compete with fresh food?

Yes, it's a common question! Frozen food, especially shock-frozen food, does not lose its vitamins and micronutrients. This allows you to outperform the food prepared in restaurants using products that have been lying around for several days or weeks. We buy the freshest food and turn it into semi-finished products the same day, so we can say that there is no such thing as fresh.

5. Who was the best cook in your family?

My mom has a chef's specialty, everyone in my family cooks well)

6. What is your fondest food memory?

My grandmother used to make handmade dumplings with bryndza cheese and bake them in a clay oven. This handmade process is just fascinating.

7. What was the first recipe you learned?

Homemade cutlets. Since my childhood I know the recipe of all variations.

8. What is your favourite food to eat?

In the morning I like to have pancakes filled with banana and cream.

9. How often do you 'play with food' to create new dishes?

In our production kitchen, our team of chefs create a new recipe every two weeks. I'll let you in on a secret! Now we're working on a new product. It will be handmade sweets and chocolate curd.

10. Which chef do you admire most and why?

Jamie Oliver really stuck with me in the early days with his simple, uncluttered meals for every day.

11. When did you start cooking, and why?

It's been with me since I was a child. I love any kind of experimentation with food, especially combining different salty&sweet flavours.

12. What was your funniest kitchen incident?

I like to let the kids cook together, but when it comes to beating with a blender, the contents of the pan usually end up not only all over the kitchen, but also on everyone's faces :)

13. What was the luckiest moment in your life so far?

When I was a kid I went fishing with my brother and fell into a river with a strong current, thank God everything ended well.

14. How do you like to relax?

I'm a family man, I spend all my free time with my kids, that's what rest means to me)

15. What is your most treasured possession?

My family, my friends and the people around me trying their best to create something new.

16. Apart from temptation, what can't you resist?

Can't resist a late night snack, bad habit)

17. What single thing would improve your quality of life?

Probably more rest and more travelling.
 

18. What career other than yours would you love to pursue?

I'd like to learn how to make films, I know that cinematography is very developed in Budapest, who knows, maybe I'll make short films as a hobby. By the way, I'm already shooting a lot of videos in our kitchen, so it's a small start :)

19. What job would you definitely never want?

I wouldn't want to work on a building, I'm afraid of heights.

20. What achievement in your life are you most pleased with?

My family.

21. What behaviours do you most like in others?

I like honesty, creativity and openness from people around me.

22. What would you say is your personal motto?

It is corny. Never give up and only go forward. I am not afraid of difficulties and obstacles, and when they arise, I just crush them).

23. What is your professional goal for the next 5 years?

Over the next few years, I'm planning to open a few more Multicook shops and start a gluten-free and sugar-free handmade production line.

24. Is there anything else you would like to mention?

 We have customers from other cities and even countries who come to Budapest just for our products. If you live in Budapest, I simply recommend that you come and visit us, you will not regret it.
