Budapest Wins EU Award for Climate Neutral Plan
- 8 May 2025 12:53 PM

The municipality joined Brussels’ EU Mission for Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities scheme running under the Horizon Europe programme in 2022, it said in a statement.
The objective is to cut CO2 emissions by 80 percent and neutralise the remaining 20 percent, said the statement.
By awarding the climate neutrality mission label, the EC has recognised Budapest's climate neutrality action and investment plan, it said, adding that it will pave the way for the withdrawal of additional EU funds to implement climate protection projects.
The award was presented to the mayor of Budapest, Gergely Karacsony, at the Cities Mission Conference running from May 6 to 8 at Cities Mission Conference in Vilnius.
