It was no surprise that this passion led him to a journey in the world of restaurants, events, and hospitality, a field in which he has worked for over 20 years.
He always strived for quality and sought opportunities to work at the finest and most beautiful locations in every country he visited. A proud father and husband, he is also a passionate hotelier currently at Mövenpick BalaLand Resort Lake Balaton.
1. Where did you grow up?
I was born and grow up in Budapest, an unique and always changing city with full of heritage, amazing food, mainstream and underground culture and great people living here. I proudly call Pest my home since my very young age and always feeling “arriving home” when I cross the Danube from Buda to Pest, on any of the bridges with any vehicles or walking.
2. If you could be an expat anywhere in the world, where would you choose?
Through hospitality I had the chance to visit and see many places around the world, and I always found the beauty in each and every location.
3. What would you miss most if you moved away from Hungary?
I would definitely miss Budapest, the walks in the downtown of.
4. Friends are in Budapest for a weekend - what must they absolutely see and do?
On Saturday I would start in the Castle District, to walk around there and “rolling down” to the Downtown, starting from the 5th district (Danube Promenade, Stephens Basilica, Vörösmarty Square, Váci Street, Markets Hall), continue through the National Museum and the Palace-quarter to the Jewish Quarter (Synagoge, Andrássy Street), and finishing there in a great local restaurant and with a tour in the Ruin Pubs. Sunday morning a great breakfast or brunchand then heading and relaxing in Széchenyi or Rudas Baths for the whole day.
5. What is your favourite food?
I really like almost everything when it is prepared with passion, quality and knowledge, but if I need to name, I am big fan of the classical Hungarian Stews, the Pörkölt, and I love them from all ingredients, from beef to chicken, from catfish to even tripe or goose gizzard. And I love to cook them all, even in the classical way in caldron (“bogrács”)
6. What is your favourite sport / form of exercise?
I like to go in any of the thermal baths, playing football in the Citypark with my son Botond or with friends, as well to bike in the Downtown from A to B.
7. What is your favourite place in Hungary?
Next to Budapest, the Lake Tisza region. The UNESCO World Heritage site, as part of Hortobágy National Park is amazing and unique place for nature as its best all year around, and I can do most of my hobbies (fishing, biking, cooking in caldron) whilst being with my family. Certainly, as for a proud Hungarian with amazing memories from here from the past and now whilst working at BalaLand, Lake Balaton has a special place in my heart as well.
8. What career other than yours would you love to pursue?
I feel amazingly privileged that I love what I am doing and I personally choose the world of hospitality more than 20 years ago. I can not see myself doing anything else.
9. What’s a job you would definitely never want?
I could not do anything related to medical. I have a natural born phobia from needles and blood test.
10. Where did you spend your last vacation?
With family last summer, we spent a week at our usual location at the Lake Tisza. My last short trip was to Oktoberfest in München, it was my first, but most probably not the last visit to the capitol of Bavaria.
11. Where do you hope to spend your next one?
Lake Tisza is always one of the spot to go for me, and the different sights of Lake Balaton will be not missed out neither.
12. What was your favourite band, film, or hobby as a teen?
I did like all kind of music, as teen I had my rock-metal-rave paths, to name my favourite all-time favourite bands and musicians includes Queen, Metallica, Giorgio Moroder and Infected Mushroom. Even it started when I was teen, my hobbies remained to play football and go to the games of Ferencvárosi Torna Club and do sweet water fishing. And I am very proud that now these I can do with my 9-year-old son Botond together.
13. Apart from temptation what can't you resist?
I have a big belly since my very early childhood and I still can’t resist good food.
14. Red or white wine?
It really depends on the mood and event and situation. To food rather a great red, with friends at spring and summer definitely for whites and fröccs.
15. Book or movie?
In the past I read a lot, as well went to cinema and watched movies very regularly, the most important was quality. Nowadays less and less both, and rather re-watching movies with my children.
16. Morning person or night person?
I pretty much can handle well both very early mornings and late nights.
17. Which social issue do you feel most strongly about?
Anything related to harm and danger to children.
18. Buda or Pest side?
Pest, without a question.
19. Which achievement in your life are you most pleased about?
I am proud that I can do what I love and I worked in the best and most beautiful places usually at each place. I am very proud to be the part of the BalaLand Project, with opening the very first 5*resort in the Hungarian countryside, realised and owned by Hungarian Visionary Hotelier Investors and managed by Accor, the world biggest hospitality company.
