It commemorates the Revolution of 1956, when Hungarians rose up against the Soviet ruled communist system and also the ‘Day of the Republic’, as in 1989 Hungary was declared a republic. On October 22nd and 23rd there are several programs held throughout Hungary.

Béla Biszku has said he does not understand why he has been charged with the murder of nearly fifty people, tabloid Blikk said on Tuesday, when he was due to appear before the court.
