Last Saturday evening Team XpatLoop and friends attended the 'Big Budapest Burns' Supper - complete with the “piping in” of authentic haggis. We enjoyed a 'full-Brigadoon' kind of evening - with singing and dancing, poetry and music. A wonderful taste of Scotland in Hungary, and all for charity!

To kick off the series of Burns celebrations in Budapest this year the British Ambassador brought together a friendly group of expats and locals at his home for a private Burns supper. It’s always a pleasure to make merry at this special Scottish night dedicated to the great bard Rabbie Burns.

It’s that time of year: freezing temperatures, expats in tartan and many men in kilts drinking whisky, bagpipers and the customary haggis. Yep, it’s the big Burns Supper in Budapest, which has raised Euro 1m for charity over the years, held again with much success last Saturday at the fabulous Corinthia.

Hungarians make jokes about Scots being a bit thrifty, but the team at The Caledonia might make them reconsider... With temperatures plummeting to nearly -20°C, local staff and expat customers of this Scottish pub have been donating ingredients and time to make hundreds of litres of soup for the homeless in Budapest.
