Pier B, a brand new passenger terminal section of more than 10 000 square meters adjoining Terminal 2B, was inaugurated today at Budapest Airport. In May 2018, the number of nights spent by foreign tourists in Hungary rose by 7.6%, while domestic tourists spent 7.4% more nights compared to a year earlier. Total gross revenues of accommodation establishments grew by 10% at current prices.

The number of guest nights spent in commercial accommodation in Hungary rose by an annual 3% to 4,439,000 in August, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) said. Guest nights spent by Hungarian tourists rose by 2.3% to 2,390,000, while nights spent by foreign visitors grew by 3.8% to 2,049,000.

The first flight of German airline company Lufthansa landed in Budapest just 50 years ago, on August 26, 1967. To mark the anniversary, an Airbus A350, the latest long-range, wide-body jet airliner of Lufthansa’s fleet, will touch down on Budapest’s Liszt Ferenc International Airport on September 8, the company told MTI in a statement.

All valid Hungarian passports are now biometric, the Central Office for Administrative and Electronic Public Services (KEKKH) said. The issuance of biometric passports started 10 years ago, on August 29, 2006, the office said. These passports include a chip with the holder’s photograph on it, which is biometric information, and other data which is also shown printed in the document.

Hungary and South Korea have agreed to launch direct flights between their capital cities this summer. Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó told a press conference that over the first phase of cooperation, Asiana Airlines, South Korea’s second biggest carrier, will operate one flight a week between Budapest and Seoul from the beginning of July to the end of August.
