A majority of the local council of Zugló, Budapest’s 14th District, yesterday objected to the government’s plans to build several large new museum buildings in the City Park. They said they agree with the idea of renewing the City Park, which lies within the district, but reject the construction of new buildings arguing that they would be harmful to the character of the park.

The 22nd Budapest International Book Festival is to open with around 400 events on Thursday at Budapest’s Millenáris Park. The book fair’s star guest this year will be American writer Jonathan Franzen, whose self-biographical novel Discomfort Zone will be introduced to the public on Saturday. During the festival’s four days, Hungary will host the world’s largest book store.
