A series of protests and clashes with police culminated with a gathering of 2,000 people who rallied Wednesday evening to protest against the construction of a Museum Quarter in Budapest’s City Park. The Budapest Pride march was held for the 21st year in the capital on Saturday afternoon. The march ended in front of Parliament with speeches and concerts. Pride spokesperson Cintia Karlik thanked everyone for attending and for choosing “active participation, freedom and equality in law instead of fear”.

The organisation’s head, Szilvia Nagy, called for political discourse not to be abusive, humiliating or degrading. She also expressed hope that the government spokesman would acknowledge Pride week.
