Tosca was an eagerly awaited piece, but its eventual reception was lukewarm. It was only gradually that this fast-paced work, often called an action opera, became a box-office success. Géza Csáth, who wrote about it a few years after the Italian premiere, credited Puccini with a comprehensive and thorough knowledge of theatre, music and the extremely complex psychological processes of reception.

The cabinet could approve a draft in the coming weeks for renovating the State Opera House, the institution’s director Szilveszter Ókovács told Inforádió on Monday. Ókovács recalled that the cabinet had issued a resolution calling on the Opera and the Ministry of Human Resources to present a strategic plan for several years ahead.
