Fitch Ratings on Wednesday affirmed Hungary’s long-term foreign currency rating at ‘BB+’ with a stable outlook, and its local currency rating at ‘BBB-’. The outlooks on the long-term ratings are stable, the country ceiling has been affirmed at ‘BBB’ and the short-term foreign currency rating at ‘B’, the agency said in a report.

The shortage of employees in Hungary’s health-care sector will pose a serious risk in the near future, according to a human resources report cited by Tuesday’s business daily Világgazdaság. An EU directive on reducing overwork in the sector has led to more demand in labour, which has a drain effect in the direction of old member states from new ones.

The national tax office (NAV) has clamped down on a retail ring involving large-scale tax fraud, involving 13 suspects. One person is already in pre-trial custody, NAV told MTI. The supermarket chain based in Pécs, southwest Hungary, distributed cleaning products, home appliances, sweets and coffee, but did not pay value added tax (VAT) on its sales.
