I’ve wanted to blog about our Queen’s Birthday Party for a little while now. But first we got very busy in the Embassy with preparations for the European Council and then I went down to the Balaton for a couple of days. Now things are a little more back to normal and I’m catching up.

On the occasion of the Budapest EuroGames 2012 and the 17th Budapest Pride Festival, we convey our support for, and solidarity with, the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) communities in Hungary. We support the right of these persons to organise large scale events and to be able to express themselves peacefully and lawfully.

The local committees of Democrats Abroad and Republicans Abroad will jointly host an Independence Day summer barbecue at the Kertem beer garden in City Park on Sunday, 1 July. All Americans and friends are invited to join in and celebrate American Independence Day with an afternoon of live music, grilled burgers, and sausage. Someone could nitpick and say that János Áder has not been confirmed as president yet. He was only nominated by Viktor Orbán and endorsed by the Fidesz-KDNP parliamentary caucuses. Let's just wait for the final vote. But we know, don't we, that there won't be any problem with his election on May 2, the date apparently picked for the glorious event. Áder will be elected after the first round of ...

There are many unique customs in Hungary at Easter: Húsvét. For example on Easter Monday, traditionally boys visited girls; recited a poem; then doused them with a bucket of water.
