An exhibition on the “war between brothers” that was the First World War which has opened in Budapest’s Várkert Bazár events centre at the foot of Budapest castle has been hailed as the most important exhibition of the year at its opening. The exhibition portrays the horrors of First World War battlefields and the world of the hinterlands.

Fans of J.K. Rowling will remember that a Common Welsh Dragon featured in ‘Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire’, the fourth book of her immensely popular series. That dragon was green in colour, but the dragon on the flag flying outside the British Embassy today is a vibrant red.

In 2014 the Annual Service of Remembrance will be held on Sunday, 9 November. The traditional service and wreath-laying ceremony will take place at the Commonwealth War Cemetery of Solymár at 10:55. Everybody is welcome to attend the ecumenical service. Those who do are kindly requested to arrive at the cemetery no later than 10:45 please. The service lasts approximately 20 minutes.
Europe’s Oldest River Battleship Inaugurated As Museum At Parliament Pier

The Lajta monitor, the sole remaining, fully restored river warship of the Austro-Hungarian Navy, is now a floating museum on the Danube in front of Parliament. The river monitor was launched in 1871, and besides serving throughout the First World War, it played a part in the toppling of the short-lived Communist regime of Béla Kun in 1919.
