Two police officers have been arrested in Bács county for beating to death a Romanian who had been detained for stealing an electric saw. County prosecutors spokeswoman Csilla Gyugyi confirmed that the victim had died of a beating at the hands of police. HVG reports that the incident happened at the Izsák police station.

The criminal gang run by Obuda Island nightclub entrepreneur Laszlo Vizoviczki may have cheated the state budget of up to Ft 825.2 million in unpaid VAT in 2010-12, prosecutors said at the end of last week. Prosecutors spokesman Geza Fazekas said Vizoviczki could presumably afford to pay off police officers and possibly other officials from funds that should have gone to pay VAT.

Szeged prosecutors yesterday indicted Norbert Németh, the chief judge of Csongrád county court, on eight counts of bribery, forgery of public documents and abuse of office. Earlier, a well known Szeged lawyer was taken into custody on suspicion of getting an entrepreneur out of custody by bribing the suspect judge.
