Moody’s decision to postpone a review of Hungary’s sovereign rating scheduled for Friday may have been a disappointment, but the ratings agency could still put the country back into investment grade at its next review in November, analysts said. Moody’s kept Hungary’s sovereign rating at “Ba1”, one notch below investment grade. The outlook for the rating is “positive”.

Consumer prices in Hungary fell by an annual 0.4% in September, the Central Statistical Office said. Prices fell at a faster pace than the 0.1% drop estimated by analysts in London. In August, the annual CPI was zero. In a month-on-month comparison, prices dropped by 0.6% in September. Seasonally-adjusted core inflation, which excludes volatile food and fuel prices, was 1.3%.

A half-complete building looking over the River Danube in Budapest’s District II, which has been dubbed one of the capital’s greatest eyesores, is to finally go under the hammer after fifteen years. The building, originally constructed as a hotel for members of the Communist-era National Council of Trade Unions (SZOT) in 1971, was demolished in the early 1990s.
