One of the very special events of the CAFe Budapest Festival of Contemporary Arts will be the concert by the legendary Australian jazz-rock-ambient trio, the Necks. Their minimalism built up into monumental forms from very refined elements will be anticipated by the Hungarian Jü featuring a great saxophone player from Norway, Kjetil Møster, who they will present their first album together with.

To celebrate its jubilee, the Eva Duda Dance Company opens this year’s season with a five-day-long festival showing recent years’ best pieces on five consecutive nights. During the event we will say goodbye to some of our shows to make room for a new repertoire soon to come.

The Hungarian State Opera House will celebrate the 130th anniversary of its opening with a gala evening on Sept. 27. The programme will begin by evoking the grand opening on this day in 1884, Szilveszter Ókovács, the Opera House’s director told a press conference.

A contemporary of Philip Glass, Terry Riley, Phill Niblock, and Steve Reich, Palestine wrote intense, ritualistic music in the 1970s, intended by the composer to rub against Western audiences’ expectations of what is beautiful and meaningful in music.

The guest star of the season-opening concert traditionally held on the evening before the anniversary of Béla Bartók's death will be arriving from Paris. While his concert programmes and recordings indicate that Bartók is one of his favourite composers, on this occasion he will be playing an emblematic work from the Romantic literature.

In his cooperation with the Munich based ensemble Gitanes Blondes Giora Feidman chose a new path. So far his Klezmer line-ups were groups he put together himself and had them following his sound concepts. In Gitanes Blondes for the first time he met a grown band with their own particular handwriting – in Giora Feidman’s opinon the best Klezmer group, no doubt, he encountered so far.

Part of a collection of manuscripts, music and photographs relating to Hungarian composer and pianist Ernst von Dohnanyi (1877-1960) has been brought to Hungary from Florida.

Working for decades for the lord of the palace, Prince Miklós Esterházy, composer Joseph Haydn once lived in this 18th-century Baroque building. There is a furnished memorial room here in his honour.
