Wagner's sole comic opera is about the role of art and culture, and the power of both. It proclaims that art is eternal through music and poetry, and by transcending historical epochs and wars. What does the composer's creative work have to say to people of today as it depicts the most diverse of human traits, characteristics and emotions in this lively, humorous and grippingly impressive opera?
In the film, artistic director and conductor Adam Fischer and director Michael Schulz speak about their key thoughts, observations and the scope for interpretation when it came to staging the production premiered at Müpa Budapest in 2013.
With English and Hungarian subtitles.
